The Daily Journal of Commerce held its fourth and final Builder Breakfast event of the year on Wednesday morning at the Sentinel Hotel in downtown Portland. Following up on the year’s previous Builder Breakfast events, which have focused on work opportunities in transportation, education, and work on the Vancouver Waterfront, this discussion took a wider view on the outlook for the upcoming year and beyond.
The event’s panelists were Michael Wilkerson, an economist and ECONorthwest project director and partner, and Mike Salsgiver, executive director of Associated General Contractors’ Oregon-Columbia chapter. Moderating the discussion was Stephanie Holmberg, co-leader of the real estate and construction practice group at Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt.
The panelists discussed topics including construction outlooks for various sectors in 2019, the labor shortage and workforce development, increasing construction costs, and taxes and regulations.
