Portland architecture, engineering, design and planning firm Mackenzie is partnering with Multnomah County to offer a minority business owner the chance to attend a business workshop.

Mackenzie and the county are helping fund a scholarship for an owner of a business certified by Oregon’s Certification Office for Business Inclusion and Diversity (COBID) to attend the Minority Business Executive Program at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business. Program participants will spend a week on campus in Seattle. The scholarship will offset the cost of the course, which otherwise is $4,380 per person.

Participants will learn about financial principles, practices and tools such as use of data for planning and decision-making. Leadership and decision-making principles will be taught throughout. Instructors also will discuss strategic thinking and planning, new and disruptive business technologies, scaling operations, branding and marketing, accessing global markets and more.

This year, the program will run Sept. 15-20.
