LRS Architects has elevated managing principals Janice Sanada and Michelle Startt to its majority ownership group.

The moves make Portland-based LRS the largest architecture and interior design firm in the Pacific Northwest that is majority-owned by women. Sanada and Startt join Trish Nixon, Dan Purgiel and Paul Boundy in the group.

鈥淲hen I started at LRS Architects over 20 years ago, the industry was very male-dominated; I was one of only four women on the architectural staff,鈥� Startt stated in a news release. 鈥淪ince then, the landscape has changed dramatically, and I’m proud to say that LRS Architects is now almost 50 percent female.鈥�

Startt joined LRS in 1999 and was promoted to principal in 2014. She is principal of the Interiors Department, and the Office + Workplace studio.

Sanada joined LRS in 2003 and was named a principal in 2013. She is a principal of the Senior Living studio.

LRS, founded in 1976, has studios focused on auto dealerships, civic projects, multifamily buildings, offices and workplaces, retail spaces and senior living facilities. The firm’s main office is on the North Park Blocks.

Recent LRS-designed projects include the Wingspan Event & Conference Center near Hillsboro Airport, The Aria apartment building in downtown Vancouver, Washington, and The Springs at Lake Oswego.
