Restore Oregon is accepting nominations through June 10 for its annual DeMuro Awards, which recognize excellence in historic preservation.

DeMuro Award-winning projects serve as educational inspiration for preservation and reuse and illustrate best practices for using historic places and spaces as tools to solve current challenges such as insufficient affordable housing, stalled economic development and resilience from climate change.

A jury of professionals in the fields of architecture, engineering, planning and historic preservation will select this year’s winners. Criteria include:

• rehabilitation/redevelopment of a structure, public space or cultural landscape at least 50 years old;
• compatible addition to a historic building or infill development (new construction) within a historic district;
• a project completed in Oregon within the past five years;
• creative or unique approach to design, adaptive reuse and problem solving in the field of historic preservation;
• exceptional quality of engineering, craftsmanship, materials, standards and degree of difficulty; and
• positive impact on the community.

Self-nominations are welcome and previous submissions for projects not named winners may be resubmitted. To learn more and apply online, go to .

The awards honor the legacy of the late Art DeMuro, a developer, preservationist and Restore Oregon board member. Restore Oregon, a nonprofit, was founded in 1977 and works to preserve, reuse and pass forward historic places that reflect Oregon’s cultural heritage.

Previous award winners include the Belluschi Pavilion in Lake Oswego, Oregon City Public Library, Sovereign Hotel, Almr Apartments and retail spaces in Portland, the Fairmount Apartments, Firehouse 17 restoration and addition, and Lincoln Hall renovation and addition.
