A drilling machine was hospitalized with serious on Friday after a rotary drilling machine tipped onto its side at a construction site on the Oregon Health & Science University campus in Southwest Portland.

Portland Fire & Rescue crews responded to the incident, which resulted in the operator being pinned inside the cab of the machine. The construction crew assisted the rescue by positioning a jack to lift the cab off of the victim, according to the fire department. The extrication took 15 minutes.

The operator was transported to a trauma center with serious injuries; there were no other victims, the fire department reported via social media.

Skanska USA Building is leading construction of the project near 545 S.W. Campus Drive — the address of the Elks Children’s Eye Clinic at the Casey Eye Institute.

The operator’s identity has not been released by authorities.

Skanska issued a statement on Friday afternoon: 鈥淎t approximately 10:45 a.m. today, a rotary drilling machine on-site at ‘s Hospital Expansion Project tipped over. We are investigating the cause. We understand the operator of the drilling rig (an employee of Pacific Foundations) sustained injuries, and is under the care at OHSU Hospital. We do not have permission to release the operator’s name.鈥
