The Oregon State University Board of Trustees on Friday approved two construction projects along with several improvements to the Corvallis campus and the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport.

The largest project is a $71 million renovation of Withycombe Hall in Corvallis. The building will gain meeting space for students, lab improvements, dairy processing facility and wine processing facility expansions, and the addition of retail space to sell Beaver Classic cheese, ice cream and meat.

A $13 million project was greenlit to improve the Hatfield Marine Science Center dock to accommodate a new research vessel – the RV Taani – that is due to arrive in Newport next year. The portion of the original dock that was built in the 1960s will be replaced and a new support system will be installed to accommodate cranes, fueling trucks and large forklifts. The whole dock will also be widened, and utilities will be replaced.

Also, a $5 million budget increase was approved for Washington Way improvements. The project includes redeveloping several intersections and addressing pedestrian, bicycle, road, and railroad safety. Its expected total cost is now $29 million.
