Multnomah County’s Earthquake Ready Burnside Bridge project team is recruiting for a new Community Design Advisory Group.聽As the environmental review phase wraps up and final design begins, this group will provide the project team feedback on bridge aesthetics, including colors, materials, lighting, and shapes of certain features.

Since the project began in 2016, the county has emphasized work with the community. Several community groups have helped the project team make decisions throughout the environmental review phase.

The project will replace the existing Burnside Bridge with one that can withstand a major earthquake. In the event of such a disaster, the new bridge will provide a critical lifeline route for first responders and serve as a crucial link in community recovery.

This past spring, a Multnomah County policy group endorsed plans to narrow the bridge replacement project’s scope to limit costs. The revised design would reduce vehicle lanes from five to four. Bicyclist and pedestrian space would be reduced from 20 feet of the bridge’s width in an earlier design to 14 feet to 17 feet. The changes would save $125 million to $215 million, county officials estimated.

Megan Neill, a county spokeswoman, told the 91视频 the county had given its finance officials an $895 million project budget from 鈥渟oup to nuts,鈥� including design and construction.

This past January, the聽task force recommended聽a bascule movable span and a girder structure for the west approach.
