What was once an outdated football venue, Reser Stadium at Oregon State University underwent a massive transformation and now stands as a beacon of innovation, serving not just athletes but the entire OSU community.

The project, spanning 209,006 square feet for the stadium and 27,000 square feet for the Health Center, aimed to create a national best-in-class facility.
From the outset, the design-build team faced challenges. The original timeline stretched from April 2019 to March 2024, threatening to inflate costs and limit the project鈥檚 scope. To combat this, the team embarked on a mission to streamline the schedule. Months of collaboration and careful planning culminated in a reduction of nine months in the project timeline, saving millions and allowing OSU鈥檚 full programmatic vision to come to life.

In the midst of a pandemic, the team forged ahead. Virtual meetings became the norm. Supply chain issues were mitigated through early trade partner collaboration. Through great resources in the subcontractor community, Hoffman was able to source and deliver to OSU a significant amount of donated steel to be incorporated into the project.

A unique aspect of this project was the stadium demolition strategy. Instead of the usual months-long process of dismantling, the team opted for controlled explosives. The implosion of the west-side stadium bowl and press box was a community event, with OSU fans and locals gathering to witness the spectacle 鈥� turning the demolition into a celebration.

The stadium鈥檚 design boasts a unique feature known as 鈥淏eaver Street.鈥� The bowl-facing concourse allows fans to stay connected to the game while grabbing food or using the restroom 鈥� a game-changer in stadium design. Sustainability also was a key focus. Following the implosion, materials were carefully separated for recycling, aligning with OSU鈥檚 commitment to sustainability. A new LED lighting system allows for immediate on/off functionality and custom programming for light shows and effects.

The new Health Center, a partnership with Samaritan Health, offers primary care, counseling and laboratory services, not just to students but to the broader Corvallis community. A Student Welcome Center is the gateway for prospective students and their families, vertically connected to the stadium鈥檚 club spaces for multi-purpose use.
