Andrea Wallace, Melynda Retallack and Nate Ember share a commitment to providing problem-solving design services that focus on the people who will be using the spaces.

鈥淥ur vision is also that, a lot of times, really great design is limited to people who have wealth and we believe great design should be accessible to everybody,鈥� said Wallace, AIA, ILFI LFA, principal architect. 鈥淚 feel like a lot of our clients appreciate working with us because of how much we care.鈥�

The trio opened Ink Built Design in 2017 and specialize in trauma-informed design and biophilic design, both of which help to enhance healing for the people who live in the affordable housing projects they do. Ink Built also designs facilities for mental health and other non-profit organizations in addition to commercial, residential and renovation projects.

The woman-owned company’s project portfolio includes The Beaverton Shelter, a year-round shelter that recently opened and is within walking distance to groceries, social service agencies and employment opportunities.

Ink Built’s community support is extensive and includes Habitat for Humanity, 1% For The Planet, Oregon Wild, Sightline Institute, Soul River Inc. and Camp Namanu. Employees are given at least two days a year to volunteer for their personal causes.
