The Forest House, a 10,000-square-foot community center nestled within 600 acres of natural forest land, has opened as the centerpiece of Caldera Springs resort community’s eastern expansion.

The facility features a striking mix of modern and alpine rooflines with a warm-toned wood exterior that complements the rugged forest surroundings. Inside, high ceilings, exposed beams and large light-filled glass doors surround a welcoming family game lounge. Standout amenities include two duckpin bowling lanes, a shuffleboard table and a large wall-mounted Scrabble board. A contemporary fitness center offers panoramic views of the surrounding forest and mountain range. The facility also includes an indoor/outdoor caf茅, Piney鈥檚.

The aquatic center includes a family pool, kid pool, soaking pool, family spa and adult spa. A 30-foot dual-racer waterslide – one of Oregon’s longest – serves as the crowning feature with two tandem slides that curve into a figure-eight.

Adjacent to the Forest House is the expansive Forest Park, which offers outdoor recreational infrastructure across 120,000 square feet of space. The park includes six pickleball courts, 2,000 yards of paved and natural walking/biking trails, a play structure with covered seating, outdoor restrooms and a dog park.

Construction, which began in October 2022, faced significant challenges including one of the coldest winters in recent years with temperatures reaching as low as negative 14 degrees Fahrenheit. Crews worked through heavy snowfall and freezing conditions to meet the Memorial Day 2024 grand opening deadline.

The project required complex engineering, including an intricate pool piping system filling a 12-foot deep and six-foot wide trench stretching 100 feet in length. The installation of the waterslide involved assembling 129 individual pieces and conducting 100 test rides to ensure safety. The roof design presented another challenge, with seven different pitches requiring detailed modeling and collaboration between structural engineers, framing subcontractors and steel fabricators.

With the aid of Hammertech, R&H Construction鈥檚 safety software tool, the project achieved no loss-time incidents onsite and 100 percent pre-task plan compliance.
