Deborah (Debi) K. Creager has built a 45-year career in the construction industry, currently serving as chief financial officer and chief operating officer at Chambers Construction in the Eugene-Springfield area. As one of five company owners and the sole female partner, she joined the ownership team in 2012 and has served on the company鈥檚 board of directors since 1999.

Creager鈥檚 leadership extends across multiple operational areas within Chambers Construction, where she oversees contracts, human resources, payroll, accounting and information technology. Her recent accomplishments include implementing new payroll and accounting systems, transitioning the company to Miter and introducing GCPay for subcontractor management. These changes have streamlined accounting department processes and enabled staff to take on additional responsibilities.

Currently, Creager is spearheading the implementation of an enterprise resource planning system designed to improve efficiency across all company departments and functions. She is leading the initiative by engaging key stakeholders throughout the process to ensure comprehensive company buy-in and support.

In 2017, Creager established Chambers Construction鈥檚 Journeyman Carpenter Apprenticeship Program, which provides high school graduates with career pathways that allow them to earn livable wages while learning a trade without incurring college debt. The program reflects her commitment to developing the construction industry鈥檚 next generation of workers.

Creager鈥檚 approach to mentorship is characterized by accessibility and patience. Her dedication to younger employees entering the workforce demonstrates her investment in helping them understand professional life beyond their formal education.

鈥淭he beauty with Debi is that if you ever have a question or don鈥檛 understand something, she will stop what she is doing, and she will show you and explain to you what you need to know,鈥� regardless of an employee鈥檚 position within the company, noted Joy Pendowski, Chambers director of marketing and business development, when nominating Creager for Women of Vision recognition.

Creager maintains active involvement in monitoring industry developments and regulatory changes that could impact the construction sector. Pendowski explained that Creager 鈥渟tays informed, she speaks up, and she educates our company and our peers on issues that affect us so we can be stronger together,鈥� citing her leadership on Measure 118, which would have increased state corporate taxes, as an example of her advocacy efforts.

In recent years, Creager introduced a communications platform aimed at creating common language between office and field staff while providing tools to ease workplace tensions. The initiative also focused on developing leadership skills among potential future leaders within the organization.

Beyond her corporate responsibilities, Creager serves as board chair for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce and sits on the chamber鈥檚 budget finance committee. She also serves on the PeaceHealth Foundation and Pacific Crest Council of Scouting boards, and maintains active involvement with the Associated Builders & Contractors and Oregon Business & Industry.
