Hope Friedman has established herself as a versatile design leader over her 17-year career in architecture. Her professional journey has taken her internationally, with work experience in the United Kingdom and Japan, contributing to her diverse perspective on design.

Friedman specializes in healthcare architecture while exemplifying cross-market design principles. She has led Scott Edwards Architecture’s expansion into new typologies, serving as design lead on the firm’s first regulatory laboratory and associated office space project. Her expertise extends to ambulatory surgical centers, where she has become the firm’s specialist in this challenging typology that combines hospital-level requirements with outpatient functionality.

Her project portfolio spans large multi-family developments, net-zero visitor centers, children’s hospitals and fire stations. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated leadership in maintaining project vision despite complex challenges including budget constraints, personnel changes and supply chain disruptions.

Friedman actively contributes to the architectural community as a board member for the Architecture Foundation of Oregon, an organization focused on educating and inspiring Oregonians about built environment design. She volunteers with the Architects in Schools program, delivering design-focused programming to elementary students. Friedman also serves as a mentor for Washington State University’s health-care specific studio within its architecture program.

Within her firm, Friedman co-leads the Design Forum and is heavily involved with the Wellness Homeroom, developing continuing education programming and fostering team collaboration across market sectors. She also was co-developer of SEA’s new University of Oregon graphics internship program.
