Lorri Nelson has spent four decades shaping communities through integrated design that bridges architecture and landscape architecture.

Nelson brings 40 years of architectural experience and 20 years in landscape architecture to her current role. She began her career working for 10 years at the renowned Jones and Jones office before joining the University of Oregon’s Landscape Architecture program. She later joined Rowell Brokaw Architects to advance the firm’s ability to integrate landscape and architecture.

At Rowell Brokaw, Nelson has led major community planning projects, including co-managing the Eugene Water & Electric Board Riverfront Master Plan, which engaged more than 1,000 community members during its 12-month development process. She also managed the Lane Community Master Plan and currently leads the Glenwood Riverfront Master Plan.

Nelson’s affordable housing work focuses on creating active outdoor spaces that encour-age resident interaction. Her projects include Bayview Heights for at-risk veterans, Alma Apartments for low-income seniors and domestic violence survivors, and the Veterans Affairs Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center, which achieved Green Globes certification.

For more than a decade, Nelson served as adjunct professor in landscape architecture and education at the UO, facilitating service-learning collaborations between students and communities. She received the university’s Triple C Award in 2012 and Martin Luther King Jr. Award in 2013. Head Start recognized Nelson in 2018 for her commitment to promoting school readiness for children from low-income families.
