PORTLAND, Ore. 鈥� The Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) believes that balancing work and family shouldn鈥檛 mean choosing between a paycheck and child care. In partnership with Business Oregon, BOLI has launched the Child Care for Construction program to help eligible construction families access reliable, affordable care, because strong communities start with strong families.

So, if you want to have a family and a good paying career in the trades, our registered apprenticeship programs are here for you. We want you to know that you are, as our partners at KGW say, 鈥淢ade for This.鈥� And when it comes to paying for quality child care as an apprentice registered in Oregon (and for five years after you complete your apprenticeship), we will have your back with subsidies that keep the costs of child care at or below 7% of household income.

You choose your own child care provider. Even some family members, friends, and neighbors can qualify to receive payments to provide child care for your family by following the guidelines of the Oregon Department of Early Learning and Care.

Here is a chart that shows how the child care subsidies keep the cost of care affordable for an apprentice in a carpenter apprenticeship program, using a single parent with one child and a monthly child care cost of $800:
