Earth Advantage platinum home completed in Northeast Portland
Crews have finished construction of an Earth Advantage Platinum home in Northeast Portland, the highest level of Earth Advantage certification. Cellar Ridge Custom Homes teamed with sustainably-minded homeowners Mike and Virginia Malone as well as DeBar Architecture to construct the near net-zero energy residence.
Appraisers skeptical of green-certified home prices
Green-certified homes fetched premiums that were 30 percent higher than non-certified homes in the Portland area, according to new data released by the Earth Advantage Institute. But others in the green valuation industry argue that the analysis is misleading.
Bend college pursues green certification, but not LEED
A $12.5 million science building project at Central Oregon Community College is pursuing Earth Advantage's green certification program instead of the popular Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification. The team behind the project says EA places a greater emphasis on energy savings than LEED does.
Green-certified homes fetch higher prices
Twenty-three percent of the homes constructed in the Portland metro area between May 1, 2009 and April 30, 2010 received a third-party sustainability certification, according to a report released Friday by Earth Advantage. And those homes also sold for more money, according to the report.
