Design expert slated to speak in Portland
Barry Bergdoll, departing chief curator of architecture and design at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, will be in Portland on Saturday to speak about the relationship between museums and architecture.

Carousel, museum being built by volunteers in Albany
Albany City Council has allocated $110,000 in urban renewal money to support a project that calls for creation of a carousel, museum, arcade and food building. A drive unit manufactured in 1909 will power the carousel, which will feature horses and other animals carved and painted by hand by local volunteers.

Aircraft carrier could become museum in Fairview
A local nonprofit is seeking relocation of the USS Ranger aircraft carrier from Bremerton, Wash., to a moorage facility in Fairview. The ship will be torn apart for salvage in 2012 if it does not find a new home, but the group wants to turn it into the world鈥檚 largest floating museum.

Work began this week on a $9.3 million expansion to the Maryhill Museum of Art, located near a bluff overlooking the Columbia Gorge in Goldendale, Wash.
