The Oregon & Aggregate Producers Association and the Oregon chapter of the have conferred their annual on 19 projects in Oregon and Southwest Washington.

The annual awards event, in its 40th year, recognizes projects that demonstrate exemplary use of concrete in building design, construction, concrete paving and landscaping. Projects completed in Oregon and Southwest Washington in the past two years are eligible for recognition.

A total of 78 projects competed for awards in 19 categories. Entries were categorized and judged by a committee of volunteers with and , which are co-presenters of the event. Because of coronavirus-related restrictions on public gatherings, the annual awards banquet was cancelled.

The Oregon and Aggregate Producers Association and the Oregon chapter of the are now accepting nominations for awards recognizing the best concrete projects of 2019 in Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Officials are looking to honor exceptional projects in many categories. Nominations are being accepted through Jan. 25. Honorees will be celebrated at the 40th annual banquet on April 24, at the Salem Convention Center.

“Any public or private project completed within the past two years is eligible,” Diane Warner, chairwoman of this year’s Excellence in Concrete Awards Committee, stated in a press release. “Projects may be submitted by any of the individuals or firms that worked on the project.”

Eligible projects are those incorporating concrete as a “significant part of construction” and have been completed between Jan. 1, 2018 and Dec. 30, 2019. Projects can be located anywhere in Oregon or Greater Portland, including nearby areas of Southwest Washington.

Categories include, but are not limited to: technical merit, craftsmanship, commercial, public facility, bridges, industrial, recreational, pervious, parking structures, tilt-ups, ICF structure, retail, paving, mixed use, residential/multifamily, sustainable (LEED), utility, and residential/single-family.

Winning projects in 18 categories were celebrated recently during the 39th annual Excellence in Awards banquet at the Salem Convention Center.

More than 60 entries were submitted for the competition, which is the work of the Oregon Concrete & Aggregate Producers Association and the Oregon chapter of the . The program recognizes contractors, engineers and design firms for their use of concrete in projects completed within the past two years in Oregon and Southwest Washington.

One of the category winners, the Mill Creek Logistics Center in Salem, also received the People’s Choice Award.

In addition, the late Dr. M. Keith Kaufman was honored with a lifetime achievement award. He served as chief engineer for Knife River Corp. in Harrisburg for 19 years and as an adjunct professor at Oregon State University for 26 years. He also spent time as a senior bridge engineer at CH2M HILL in Corvallis. Kaufman died Nov. 2, 2018, at age 59.

Event organizers for the past 39 years have recognized the top concrete and aggregate work in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Awards are given out to the top contractors, architects, engineers and suppliers. Seventeen project teams were feted recently during the 38th annual banquet.

The Oregon Concrete and Aggregate Producers Association and the Oregon chapter of the jointly presented the awards to projects that exhibited outstanding use of concrete in building design, construction and landscaping. In order to qualify, projects had to be located in Oregon or Southwest Washington, and be completed within the past two years.

During the awards event, which took place at the Salem Convention Center last month, awards were given to projects in 16 categories. A 17th project, the Hannah Mason Pump Station in Portland, received the Judge’s Choice award.

Also during the event, a lifetime achievement award was presented to Brad Moyes. He has worked at Consulting Engineers since 1974, after receiving a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Oregon State University. Moyes is a registered engineer in 20 states. He is a past president of both the American Concrete Institute’s Oregon chapter and the .

“(Brad) has worked on and been principal-in-charge of countless projects of every type of material and construction, ranging from the very small to the skyline-altering projects out our windows of Portland,” OCAPA wrote about Moyes, who has been involved with the concrete awards program for more than 20 years. “Over the years, he has been a thoughtful mentor, manager, co-worker and friend.”

The Oregon & Aggregate Producers Association and the Oregon chapter of the are accepting nominations for the 2018 Oregon .

Public and private projects completed within the past two years are eligible for the competition in a wide range of categories that include (but aren’t limited to) technical merit, craftsmanship, commercial, residential, public facilities, bridges, industrial, tilt-ups, residential, paving, mixed use and parking structures.

Worksheets and submission forms are available online at . The deadline to submit nominations is Jan. 26.

For more than 35 years, the annual , organized by the Oregon & Aggregate Producers Association and the ‘s Oregon chapter, have honored outstanding projects in Oregon and Southwest Washington. The building industry gathered in Salem recently to honor some of the most outstanding work for projects completed in Oregon and Southwest Washington within the past two years.

The 36th annual , produced through a joint effort of the Oregon Concrete and Aggregate Producers Association and the ‘s Oregon chapter, drew more than 60 entries. Winning projects in 17 categories were recognized during an awards banquet held April 22 at the Salem Convention Center.

The concrete work for the Oregon Zoo‘s Elephant Lands received the award for a commercial project as well as the People’s Choice award.
