Portland’s sordid history with vinyl windows
In today's paper, you can read my story about two new apartment projects on Northwest 23rd Avenue that will be using vinyl windows. Vinyl windows have a hard time getting approval from Portland's design commission because they are generally cheaper, lower-quality products (compared to alternatives like fiberglass and aluminum) that people think aren't attractive and don't hold up very well.
Northwest Portland apartments approved despite plan for vinyl windows
The Portland Design Commission is ready to move forward with a 92-unit, six-story apartment project at 23rd Avenue and Lovejoy Street in Northwest Portland. The project plans call for vinyl windows, a feature the design commission has historically rejected citing inferior quality and meager visual appeal.
A pump station in a park? It better be fun
The water bureau will request design advice next week from the Portland Design Commission on its replacement for the 99-year-old Fulton Pump Station in Southwest Portland.
