Crews to start installing Gibbs Street bridge spans next week
Next week, crews will begin connecting the pieces of the Gibbs Street Pedestrian Bridge across Interstate 5. General Contractor Wildish Standard Paving Co. crews will start installing steel girders that will connect the towers on both ends of the highway starting Friday night, Nov. 4.
Highway construction still lacking women, minorities
Most states are doing a 鈥減oor job鈥 when it comes to offering on-the-job training and apprenticeship opportunities for women and minorities who want to work in highway construction, a recent study found. Progress is being made in Oregon, however.
Footbridge over I-5 to be completed by March
Work on the $6.7 million Gibbs Street Pedestrian Bridge project in Portland's South Waterfront is expected to wrap up in March 2012. The 700-foot-wide bridge over Interstate 5 will include stairs and an elevator large enough to hold bicycles or wheelchairs.
Once-flush ODOT now facing lean times
Oregon Department of Transportation鈥檚 high priority projects, like the Iowa Street Viaduct Replacement, are being completed as the agency prepares for a lower budget.
Hydroblasting work starts on Oregon City Bridge
