Melynda Retallack is founder and principal of Ink Built Architecture, a women-owned Portland firm focused on delivering affordability, sustainability and social equity through design. During her 30-year career, Retallack has built a practice centered on creating accessible spaces that promote health, healing and joy for underserved communities.

As a woman entering architecture when females represented a small minority in the field, Retallack navigated significant challenges to establish her firm. Today, she leads a predominantly female team committed to advancing opportunities for women, minorities and LGBTQ+ professionals in architecture.

Retallack serves as board chair of Camp Fire Columbia, a position she has held since 2016. Also, she is a past board chair of Camp Namanu. Under her leadership, Ink Built Architecture became a 1% For the Planet member, donating 1 percent of annual revenue to environmental and social organizations including Oregon Wild, Soul River and Habitat for Humanity Portland Region. The firm provides pro bono design services supporting Cultivate Initiatives鈥 work with Portland鈥檚 houseless population.
