James 鈥淛imbo鈥� Anderson recently was elected by acclamation to a fourth three-year term as an officer for Operating Engineers Local 701. He took the oath of office Sept. 13 led by John Downey, the union鈥檚 general president, according to Northwest Labor Press.

Since Anderson first was elected in 2016, he has led Local 701鈥檚 construction of a state-of-the-art training center in Canby. Under his leadership, the union also has bolstered its pension plan, more than doubled its treasury, and increased its membership by more than 400 people.

Originally from Youngstown, Ohio, Anderson grew up in a family of union steel mill and ironworkers. He worked as a structural iron worker in Los Angeles before moving to Oregon, working for Campbell Crane and joining Local 701 in 1994. He helped unionize the concrete pump industry and windmill work, and increased union market share in the crane industry.

Local 701, headquartered in Gladstone, represents about 3,800 members who operate heavy equipment in building and road construction and work as stationary engineers who operate and maintain building equipment.

Over his 36-year career, Garth Bachman has developed a leadership philosophy that centers on complete honesty with his union鈥檚 membership.

鈥淚t does no good to lie or skirt around the truth. If you made a mistake, tell the membership you made a mistake,鈥� he said, adding it also helps to be a bit stubborn, know how to say 鈥渘o鈥� and not be afraid of confrontation.

Bachman considers his greatest career accomplishment to be repairing IBEW Local 48鈥檚 pension plan, which was only 78 percent funded when he took over. Five years later, it is now 100 percent funded and enhanced by improved benefits.

鈥淚 want to see everything we have be better for the next generations. I want to eliminate some of the problems that I saw in my years in the electrical industry so future generations don鈥檛 have to see some of that,鈥� he said.

Bachman鈥檚 professional affiliations include serving on the Oregon State Building and Construction Trades Council and as a vice president for Oregon AFL-CIO.

Robert Camarillo takes great pride in having worked as a journeyman ironworker, noting he enjoyed the hard work, the adrenaline rush, the camaraderie and personal friendships, and the career opportunities that were presented to him.

So, when he was selected to lead the Oregon State Building and Construction Trades Council in 2018, it was without doubt a significant career achievement. The organization represents 30 affiliated member unions and more than 25,000 construction workers.

Since he took the leadership role, his goals have been to grow the organization, advance its legislative agenda, and promote project labor agreements to foster more opportunities for people of color, women, immigrants and members of the LGBTQ+ communities.

Camarillo appreciates the opportunity to work with people from diverse backgrounds to deliver results that make a difference for members of the building trades and the industry. He also enjoys building coalitions, helping open doors for future leaders, and working on advancing diversity and inclusion in the industry.

Nicole Davison Le贸n is executive director of the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber, leading strategic growth and program restoration for the 31-year-old organization serving Oregon鈥檚 Latino business community. Le贸n, who has more than eight years of industry experience, including five with the chamber, has secured sustainable funding, expanded cross-sector partnerships, and boosted the chamber鈥檚 scholarship and small business development programs.

Le贸n serves as vice chair of the board of directors at Unitus Community Credit Union, where she chairs the Nominating Committee. She sits on the Small Business Resiliency Budget Committee for the Washington State Department of Commerce and the Portland Waterfront Pavilion Steering Committee. As a member of the Governor鈥檚 Racial Justice Council 鈥� Economic Opportunity Committee, she works to address systemic barriers and expand economic pathways.

A first-generation student and immigrant who grew up in a small business family, Le贸n focuses her leadership on equity, entrepreneurship support and community-driven economic development across Oregon and Washington.

Jenny Dixson brings 22 years of industry experience to her role as executive director of the Northwest Utility Contractors Association. She leads the organization鈥檚 efforts to support member companies while strengthening the utility construction sector across the region.

Dixson explained that becoming executive director has been a career highlight, noting she鈥檚 inspired by members鈥� commitment to industry improvement. She described supporting member companies and building a more resilient industry as a genuine passion beyond professional duties.

Her leadership approach centers on partnership and positivity. Dixson said that working collaboratively, listening attentively, and encouraging others creates stronger connections and better outcomes. She noted that maintaining a positive outlook inspires progress while building trust and momentum.

In addition to fulfilling responsibilities in her main role, Dixson serves on the Northwest College of Construction board, extending her influence in construction education and industry development throughout the Northwest region.

Jodi Hack鈥檚 greatest career accomplishment is twofold. The first is building a business from the ground up into something meaningful and impactful. Second is her work as a state legislator leading the passage of the Oregon Pay Equity Act.

鈥淭hat legislation not only advanced fairness in the workplace but was later used as a case study on negotiation skills at the Harvard Kennedy School of Business, something I鈥檓 deeply proud of,鈥� she said.

Hack believes effective leadership starts with purpose, leading with integrity, building strong and capable teams, showing empathy, and maintaining grace without weakness.

鈥淚 believe success is driven by honest relationships, strategy, intuition and resiliency, qualities that help navigate challenges, inspire others and achieve meaningful results,鈥� she said. 鈥淟eadership is not about position. It鈥檚 about relationships, influence, trust, and the ability to move people toward a shared goal.鈥�

Hack鈥檚 board memberships include the Oregon Community Foundation Willamette Valley Leadership Council, OBI, YMCA, Reap, Union Gospel Mission of Salem, Community Progress Teams, Reading for All, the CTE Grant Advisory Council, United Way and First Citizen.
