Portland Parks & Recreation has extended the deadline for proposals for the redevelopment of the former Portland Visitors Information Center.

Proposals for the John Yeon-designed space, originally due Jan. 28, are now due Feb. 15. The city RFP asks for redevelopment of the historic structure as a business or service that draws people to the south end of Waterfront Park throughout the year. 

The extension, according to business development coordinator Todd Lofgren, allows Parks to clarify that proposals with agreement terms longer than 25 years will be reviewed if they include new structures. 

“Just to make sure everyone has the same information,” he said.

The change bumps the project timeline back by two weeks, with proposal review and evaluation to take place the week after the deadline. That initial review will be followed by scoring, interview and negotiation processes. 

The successful proposal should be selected and a substantial presentation ready for City Council review by this summer, Lofgren said.
