David May, left, an ironworker with Bar M Steel of Sandy, cuts rebar for a column as part of phase two of the viaduct replacement project in Southeast Portland. The Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Grand Avenue viaducts, which carry an average of 60,000 vehicles per day, will be realigned and replaced. When completed in 2011, the new structures will have four lanes of traffic, bike lanes, sidewalks and space for parking underneath. Max J. Kuney Company is the general contractor for the $64 million job for the Oregon Department of Transportation.
