The Energy Trust of Oregon has cut Portland State University a $313,114 incentive check for its recent energy efficiency improvements to the Fourth Avenue Building, which house’s PSU‘s Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science.

According to Mark Fujii, PSU facilities engineer, the building improvements will save 1.4 million kilowatt hours, or $126,000 in annual energy costs.

Working with Interface Engineering, $1.1 million in upgrades were made to the structure, including installation of carbon monoxide controls for parking garage exhaust fans and improvements to the building’s heating and cooling system. A system for re-using energy from the building’s data center to heat the rest of the building was also installed.

Other project consultants include PAE Consulting Engineers, Hydro-Temp Mechanical and EESI Environmental & Engineering Services.

In addition to the Energy Trust incentive, PSU applied for a Business Energy Tax Credit from the Oregon Department of Energy to offset project costs.
