Bike plan approved; funding not settled

Portland City Council today unanimously approved a plan to build $600 million in projects over the next 20 years to improve access to biking routes in the city.

“I think the plan is an ingenious solution to a complex problem,” said Commissioner Randy Leonard before his “yes” vote.

Mayor Sam Adams said he plans to kick start bike plan funding with $20 million in city funds. That plan will be considered at city council in 30 days, Adams said. Commissioner Amanda Fritz is also in support of kick-starting the plan with $20 million. Commissioners Nick Fish, Dan Saltzman and Randy Leonard did not indicate what they thought of the kickstart.

A committee will now be formed to study additional financing options for the bike plan.
