TriMet, the Portland area public transit agency, is building a steel structure that will support wind turbines and solar panels to be installed in the future.

The structure is being built at the terminus of the TriMet MAX Green Line on Southwest Jackson Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues.

The turbines and panels are a part of an energy pilot program next to the Portland State University campus that will provide an educational opportunity for students as well as help power TriMet’s electrical systems on site.

General contractor for the project is . Project subcontractors Liberty Steel, Affordable Electric and ACS Testing are a part of the transportation agency’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program.
