Egyptian museum seeks contractor

Ever wanted to rub elbows with the ancient statue of Ramesses the Great? You could get your chance if you’re chosen as the general contractor for the Grand Egyptian Museum, which will soon put out an international call for bids for the $550 million project in Giza.

According to an article by the , construction manager Hill International Inc. is 90 to 120 days away from issuing a bid to find the ‘highest caliber’ general contractor in the world for the project, which will be built near Giza’s ancient pyramids. The 500-hectare museum will be partially buried in the sand, requiring construction of one of the largest retaining walls of all time.

Over 1,500 architects competed for the design of the museum in 2003. I’m hoping some of our Oregon contractors go after this one. I’ve never covered a project in Egypt before…
