Conservation group 1000 Friends of Oregon named a new executive director today. Jason Miner had served as conservation director of Oregon Trout before taking over as director of the Nature Conservancy’s western Massachusetts program.

Miner brings a background in land use law and environmental management to the organization, said Elisabeth Lyon, 1000 Friends of Oregon board chair.

1000 Friends was founded in 1975 to advocate for land use planning spelled out in 1973’s Senate Bill 100. In its early days, the organization frequently took sued governments and elected officials to make sure they complied with the new laws.

In the years since, the organization’s focus has shifted to education and advocacy.
