I was doing some research on an abandoned fire station I pass daily as I ride the MAX Green Line from the Rose Quarter to downtown Portland when I found a Flickr group dedicated to photos of abandoned buildings in Oregon.
Though I couldn’t find any pictures of the old fire station near Union Station, has some beautiful photos of (a building recently profiled by web editor Aaron Spencer), the abandoned and other structures from around the state.
I have a thing for things that are falling apart. The fire station I pass each day looks pretty good on the outside, with it dark, red bricks and big green wooden doors. But I know from the red U sign posted on the building that it’s structurally unsound and unsafe to inhabit. Still, it’s just too lovely to imagine that it will be demoed or continue to sit unused.
Does anyone know this fire station’s story?
