A while ago, I blogged about a smart phone app that will tell you a building’s history. The app is for a select group of buildings in Chicago, but I thought, “Wouldn’t it be great if this were in Portland?” Well, the app gods must have heard me.
The , where developers collaborate about how to best put public information in the hands of the public, takes suggestions for apps just like this. And is awfully similar to the app I mentioned.
For the Portland Historic Landmarks app, certain “landmark buildings, structures, and sites could be ‘tagged’ so people using the application could read a short history or description of the building.” Developers could use public information on historic buildings like that on .
This sound so much like my idea that I think we got it from the same place.
