Software developer AutoDesk has released a preview of its , its software for Building Information Modeling.

Solar radiation (basically, energy from sunlight) mostly contacts roofs and windows. The solar radiation turns into thermal radiation as it moves through the walls and into buildings, which makes building temperatures rise. This makes attics, which are close to the roof, and rooms with lots of windows really hot.

Good design can help mitigate unwanted heating and improve buildings’ energy efficiency.

This is where Revit comes in: This solar radiation technology will display solar radiation levels on various surfaces of building models. The technology uses building shapes and information on local weather patterns. It can be applied over an entire city block to take shading patterns into account.
