The coolest roof for summer

I wrote about the cooling effect eco-roofs can have on roof-mounted solar panels for Monday’s paper. I thought that was pretty cool. But the rooftop at the new in Singapore is cooler by far.

Over 200 meters above ground, the 150-meter on the roof of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel is a sight to behold. This engineering marvel uses a circulation system to take water spilling from the edge, filter it and return it to the pool. About of three Olympic sized swimming pools, it is the largest outdoor pool (and the coolest roof, in my opinion) in the world.

The resort was designed by architect Moshie Safdie, and runs about $422 a night for a room. While I’m a fan of the pool, I’m not so sure about the look of the If I didn’t know better, I’d think some intergalactic cruise ship had decided to drop anchor on Singapore’s skyscrapers.
