The Honolulu-based real estate investment company, Watumull Properties, has purchased the Discovery Center in Portland’s district for $3.9 million.

The 50,000-square-foot building that sits on a two-acre lot was most recently a showroom and sales office for developers Williams & Dame and Gerding Edlen. The building has been vacant since the development firms built neighboring condominium projects along the South Waterfront.

But the building won’t remain vacant for long according to J.D. Watumull, owner of Watumull Properties. The firm already has a ten-year lease signed for 15,000 square feet of the building by Southwest Charter School. The public charter school, which is currently located only blocks away from the Discovery Center, plans to open for fall term in the building, he said.

Watumull is still looking for other tenants for the building. He is targeting tenants that need the space for educational or storage purposes.

The Discovery Center is located at 680 S.W. Bancroft St.
