The Portland Development Commission announced today it will award $320,000 toward 11 projects as part of its Community Livability Grant Program.

The PDC and an evaluation committee comprised of city staff and community members chose the grant recipients. The 11 projects are within the Interstate Corridor Urban Renewal Area.

The grants are awarded annually by the PDC and can be used for projects that involve physical improvements to community facilities, open spaces or historic or cultural buildings. Some of this year’s grant money includes $56,375 for improvements to the Historic Kenton Firehouse, which serves as a low-cost community center; $45,000 to Ethos Music Center for work on the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center, which it recently leased; and $46,890 in partial funding for the Clarendon School Community Garden.

Since 2006, the PDC has awarded more than $1.1 million to 24 projects within in the Interstate Corridor URA.
