Portland metro reserves OK’d by state agency

Urban and rural reserves in the Portland-metro area came one step closer to realization yesterday.
The Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development released on regional government Metro’s urban and rural reserve designations. The report supported the designations and suggested the seven-member Land Conservation and Development Commission approves them next month when it releases its decision.
The urban and rural reserve decisions will help guide where growth may or may not occur in the metro area over the next 50 years. Metro teamed up with Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington counties to determine what should be included in each designation.
The commission is expected to discuss the designations, review the report and hear testimony on the 46 appeals on the final designations at a hearing in mid-October. The commission will then make the final designation decision.
