Stimson Lumber Co. has decided to appeal $14,600 in penalties from Oregon’s Department of Environmental Quality.

Oregon’s DEQ in October cited Stimson for air and water quality permit violations at a wood products mill the company owns in Gaston. Emissions from the facility exceeded standards for plywood and composite wood product facilities and a pollution control scrubber was being operating improperly, resulting in $10,400 in fines. Wastewater discharged by Stimson into Scoggins Creek also violated the company’s wastewater discharge permit, resulting in a $4,200 fine.

Oregon’s DEQ is waiting for Stimson to set a date to sit down with DEQ administrators and discuss the violations, according to Jeff Bachman, environmental law specialist with Oregon’s DEQ. If a settlement cannot be negotiated, an administrative hearing will be held.

Stimson Lumber Co. has not yet returned the 91视频’s call for comment.
