The Clackamas County Board of Commissioners next week will hold its final public meeting to discuss adding a $5 fee to vehicle registrations to pay for the county’s part of the Sellwood Bridge replacement.

It will cost between $290 million to $330 million to replace the 85-year-old bridge over the Willamette River.

The county’s portion of that is $22 million, which the fee, if approved, would cover. The rest of the funds would come from Multnomah County, the city of Portland, Oregon Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration.

About 30,000 cars travel across the bridge each day, with about 70 percent commuting to or from the county.

If the fee hike is approved, it would begin sometime in 2011.

The public can provide comments at the board’s hearing on Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. in Oregon City. It will be held at the Public Services Building, 2051 Kaen Rd. The board plans to make its final decision on Dec. 9.
