It doesn’t matter if we get rain, sleet or snow – the Portland Bureau of Transportation is well prepared to make sure Santa’s ride into Portland on Christmas Eve is a smooth one, said Dan Anderson, a spokesman for the agency.

“Santa could easily land on our streets if he needed to,” Anderson said. “If the weather turns bad, our plows are ready, we’ve got all the streets lit up. You can see Portland from the sky easily – it’s lit up like a runway.”

The is predicting a 60 percent chance of rain and a low of 38 degrees for St. Nick’s annual trip – so snow isn’t all that likely.

Those interested in keeping an eye on Santa during his journey can check out the ‘s website.

And if for some reason the weather changes, Anderson noted that there are several good emergency landing places in Portland to keep Santa safe, especially on some of the long straightaways on the city’s east side.

“Things are looking good for his ride,” Anderson said. “We’ve kept the streets clean.”
