After a few months of testing, the city of Springfield has given Oregon’s new full-service building e-permitting program the thumbs up and has become its first client.

The extended offering from the Department of Consumer and Business Services Building Codes Division builds on a basic services permitting program used by 34 jurisdictions across the state, said Lisa Morawski, a spokeswoman.

“The basic services program has been going on for a few years, where you can get over-the-counter permits,” Morawski said. “With the new service, users can schedule inspections and do more complex building permits.”

The department is talking to 16 jurisdictions about adopting the new full-service program, including Portland, Lake Oswego and Lane County. It’s available to all 132 jurisdictions in the state, Morawski added.

Dave Puent, a Springfield building official, said users in his area have been impressed with the variety of new services available online.

“The city of Springfield is extremely excited about the heightened level of industry services and increased public access that can be provided to our customers in the future with the full-service e-permitting program,” Puent said in a news statement.

The full-service program lets contractors use a variety of services, including purchase of permits, submitting of electronic plans for review, receiving correction notes, printing permits, tracking permit progress and getting a Certificate of Occupancy.

Architects and engineers can also submit documents through it.

“The goal is to get as many people on there as possible so things are more consistent throughout the state,” Morawski said.
