The Portland Development Commission will be going to through a round of layoffs by spring of this year.

Senior staff with Portland’s redevelopment and urban renewal agency announced at a staff meeting last week that concerns over the budget will lead to staff layoffs. But at this time the number of staff and the time frame around the cuts are still unknown.

“In looking at the budget, this is something that is going to happen,” said Shawn Uhlman, a spokesman with the PDC. “We don’t know when, but it was explained to us that it would be sooner rather than later.”

Uhlman said more information would be available on the layoffs by the end of February or early March when the next budget is more concrete.

The PDC laid off 15 employees last June amid budget concerns. After that round of layoffs, the PDC employed 155 people.
