I swear Matt Groening, Portland native and creator of “The Simpsons” must keep up with his hometown’s happenings and imbue them into his show.

On last night’s episode, The Simpsons visit Springfield’s new stadium, a grandiose venue that is not only a home to sporting events, but to other entertainment options. It’s not unlike proposals for the redeveloped Rose Quarter entertainment district – specifically, the out-of-the-box one the Trail Blazers proposed, called .

Today, the general idea for the district’s future includes a re-imagined concept of sports, entertainment, music, food and other retail. Maybe museums. Maybe a cultural center.

Or maybe, as Marge notes, “This place even has its own arts district with football-hating intellectuals!”
