SolarWorld’s solar panels are some of the greenest in the world, according to a scorecard released today by the .

SolarWorld, a German company that has a U.S. headquarters in Hillsboro, received high marks on the scorecard, which rates the world’s largest solar manufacturers on green practices beyond the benefits of the energy they produce.

鈥淚n their use days, solar panels are benign,鈥� said Sheila Davis, executive director of the Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition. The solar scorecard, now in its second year, rates manufacturers for responsible use of chemicals, treatment of workers and ease of panel recycling for customers, Davis said.

SolarWorld . The manufacturer lost points because its products contain lead compounds and because it lacks transparency for one of its panel disposal policies.

SolarWorld was one of six top 10 solar manufacturers in the world that filled out the solar scorecard survey.

鈥淔or the top ten, there’s no excuse why they don’t have environmental practices in place and why they aren’t being transparent about it,鈥� Davis said. She added that she suspects those who didn’t respond to the survey had something to hide.
