The Portland Development Commission from businesses in the , and urban renewal areas that are interested in adding sustainable features.

Neighborhood businesses and small to medium-sized wholesalers and manufacturers can apply for the up to $400,000 in tax increment financing funds allocated for the grant program for the 2011 to 2012 fiscal year. The goal of the program is to encourage businesses that might not otherwise think about implementing sustainable features to consider the energy efficiency and cost savings benefits available, said PDC project manager Stephen Green. Preference is given to projects which, among other requirements, can be implemented within the year, use local or recycled products, have high visibility, and show a social benefit for the community.

In previous years, Green Features Grants have funded solar-powered systems and upgraded energy management for local businesses such as the North Portland Wellness Center and Cherry Sprout Produce. Applications are due June 17, and grant announcements will be made on a rolling basis.
