Multnomah County signed a $17 million contract this week with the architecture and engineering team chosen for the project. This contract includes bringing the project from its current stage of 30 percent design to 100 percent design over an 18-month period, as well as permitting and public involvement assistance. The design will include the bridge as well as the interchange where the bridge meets Oregon Route 43.

The team, which will be led by T.Y. Lin International in partnership with CH2M HILL, has set a record for Multnomah County projects for participation by disadvantaged minority, women or emerging small businesses. The project team includes twelve DMWESB firms, which represent 15 percent of the total value of the contract.

Commissioner Deborah Kafoury said in a statement today the county is 鈥渋mpressed that the team has already set such a high bar for involving disadvantaged local businesses in the project.鈥

The Sellwood Bridge project has a projected cost of $290 million. Clackamas County is slated to pay $22 million of that amount, pending a May 17 vote on whether to add a $5 annual vehicle registration fee to fund that contribution.

Contract negotiations with the construction team of Slayden Construction Group/Sundt Construction are expected to be completed in the next few weeks.
