Demand for green building materials in the U.S. is projected to grow 13 percent per year through 2015, according to by international business research company the Freedonia Group.
According to the Freedonia study, the most significant driver for demand will be an overall rebound of the construction market, but green materials will receive a higher than historical share of that demand.
The study projects that green building materials demand will outpace overall building construction expenditures, led by lumber and wood panels that are produced through certified environmentally and socially responsible practices. Water-efficient plumbing fixtures and fittings, efficient lighting fixtures, green floor coverings and recycled-content gypsum and concrete are also expected to see a rapid increase in demand.
