Both the Oregon and Washington departments of transportation have selected new senior representatives to lead the $3.6 billion Columbia River Crossing project.

ODOT officials on Tuesday announced that Kris Strickler, longtime CRC project team member, will take the lead on the project for Oregon. Over the weekend, WSDOT officials announced that Nancy Boyd, who most recently served as deputy state design engineer for WSDOT, will take the lead for the state of Washington.

The announcements also cleared up the management structure of the CRC moving forward. Boyd is now the lead on the project, and Strickler will serve as her deputy.

Details on the management structure for the project, which in addition to a new Interstate 5 bridge over the Columbia River includes several new freeway interchanges, come only a week after the governors of both states jointly announced they’d move forward with a deck truss design for the bridge. Project leaders had originally decided on a flashier, open-web box girder, but the $100 million savings from the deck truss design won them over.

Both come to the project with vast experience. In addition to working for nearly six years on the CRC for ODOT, Strickler worked in the private sector for HDR Engineering over the past year. Over that time period his main client was the CRC project. Boyd has spent the past 20 years with WSDOT.

According to the release, Strickler replaces Richard Brandman. Brandman’s contract expired in February and wasn’t renewed. Boyd replaces Don Wagner, who will return to his previous position as WSDOT regional administrator, the release said.
