Lake Oswego may be one of the most affluent communities in Oregon, but until the city partnered with Advanced American Construction, the city sat upon a 50-year-old, corroded sewer line that was deemed unreliable and potentially hazardous to the community and the environment.

鈥淎AC is one of the premier marine contractors on the west coast and the city was very pleased to contract with a local business for this challenging phase of work,鈥� said Joel Komarek, the city鈥檚 lead engineer and project director.

The new, energy-saving and corrosion-resistant system utilizes gravity rather than pumps to move material through the pipe, thereby considerably lowering utility costs and decreasing environmental impact.

The new sewer line is the first of its kind 鈥� never before has a three-mile long, s-shaped, buoyant sewer line anchored 270 feet below bedrock, been constructed.

The team faced several challenges in completing this innovative project, but work was completed well within budget and without a single accident or injury.
