While a proposed $40 million renovation and expansion is still a few years away, it isn鈥檛 stopping officials at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts from doing some renovation work at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.

Portland鈥檚 iconic concert hall is in the midst of a $170,000 facelift that involves replicating its original 1928 cast stone moldings and making repairs to the brick and cast stone fa莽ade. The preservation project, which was designed by the Portland-based Dortignacq Architecture, allows the building to preserve its National Register of Historic Places designation while getting the much needed repairs.

鈥淎s with any historic building, careful restoration is very important,鈥� said Robyn Williams, PCPA executive director. 鈥淭he Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall is one of Portland鈥檚 most beloved landmarks, and it is our responsibility to maintain the building with the utmost care.鈥�

Pioneer Masonry Restoration Company began working on the fa莽ade in June 6, and project completion is slated for August.
