Azuray Technologies, a solar power electronics start-up born out of the labs of Oregon State University, announced two significant developments last week.

Azuray will partner with Aten Solar Corporation to distribute one of Azuray’s power optimizers, the AP250, throughout North America. The device increases the amount of energy that can be harvested from solar panels by up to 25 percent without requiring any additional equipment.

The Durham-based company also announced last week that its AP300 power optimizer smart junction box has been certified in both North America and Europe by TUV Rheinland, an international consulting and inspection firm.

The AP300, developed with Renhe Photovoltaic Technology, solves several common problems in harvesting energy and ultimately captures up to 99.2 percent of energy that would otherwise be lost because of shade or mismatched modules, according to the company.

Azuray is field testing solar power electronics across Europe, North America and Asia, with sales locations soon to open in China, although the company is still pre-revenue.
