A new survey conducted by Trudy Cooper & Associates has found that the city of Beaverton‘s Community Development Department is improving its communication with developers and contractors.

The survey, primarily results of a focus group led by Cooper, was in response to concerns by businesses that the CDD, which handles permitting and building code enforcement, is hard to work with and has processes that are much more cumbersome than those of surrounding cities.

The focus group asked contractors and developers to discuss how well the city does with coordinating project close-out, responding to plan submittals, building relationships with the building community and staying in touch with builders.

According to the report, customers now say they prefer Beaverton’s level of service and outreach compared to other jurisdictions. The report also shows positive feedback regarding reduced fees for permits and notice given to customers when their permits are about to expire.

A second focus group is planned for September with a different group of design professionals.
